In these performances, I used the light coming through the windows and the shadows cast on the architecture of the chapel by my body and the elements surrounding me, as the bricks and mortar to produce a series of photographs to work further with, organizing them in a series of open ended narratives.
I created a series of linear narratives that can be experienced, read from left to right. I decided to invert some of the images, as the drawings that I was producing with my body and not the actions that the performer was executing were the most important component of these pieces.
In one of them the performer is visible all the way through the performance, in another only his shadow is visible and in the other ones there is a mix of both and only the legs and a part of his torso are visible.
I thought that this last one was the most successful one, as it would allow the viewer to picture himself or herself within the action at times and also become a spectator at others.

The arrangement of the light thresholds, the Dutch angle at which the camera has been set and the fact that the light comes and goes as time goes on, adds to the success of the piece, in my opinion, as it makes the image more dynamic while the passage of time is clearly present.

These pieces are very versatile and due to their nature as photographs, they can be exhibited in several different ways, i.e. light boxes, large format prints, projections that would allow the viewer(s) to interact with them… They can also be arranged in several different ways to create different kinds of narratives, with different numbers of images or with the images arranged in different ways, that allow other elements into the experience, like the way the blocks of shadows work together or how the space unfolds or repeats depending on how the images are shown together.
