As one of our first tasks during the course at Bath Spa, we were asked by our tutor to come up with our own ideas to develop projects. I decided to continue with the line of work that I had started with the machines and the deconstruction exercise, inspired by Landy and by the machine that I had designed during the summer, as well as by the one that I had just constructed in the studio.
I decided to map my own body with form fitting patterns that would allow me to treat the surface of it as the body of a car, made out of parts that can be assembled to end up with the shape of the car.
I painted a mural on my studio wall to portray this action; and I decided to use the corner where my studio is located, as a fundamental part of this work. By using the space in this way I was trying to express how, working from patterns, a 3D shape can be obtained by combining 2D shapes together. By arranging the pattern pieces in the way that I did I was trying to show how the reproduction of the 3D shape would be possible by assembling the different pieces. How copies of the shape of my body would be possible.
