Walcot Collaborative - Movement, light, material

21st April - 18th June - Corsham Town Hall
When the Walcot Chapel collaboration was happening, myself and some of the other students that were taking part in it realised that even though we were not working in collaboration, the pieces that we were producing were somehow related within a context.
We were aware that we would have to organise some sort of exhibition as part of our Professional Practice module and we thought that it would be a good idea to organise a show of the work that we had produced during our residency at the chapel.
We considered a variety of venues including Sion Hill, Corsham Court, Newton Park, 44AD and the Roper Gallery at Bath Artists’ Studios, but in the end due to availability, cost and the aesthetics of the spaces we chose to hold our exhibition at Corsham Town Hall. We paid them a visit and spoke with Stephanie Szakalo, who is in charge of the exhibitions over there. She showed us a meeting room on the ground floor which had an exhibition by local artists in it at the time. There is a large meeting table in it, a fire place, two doors and two windows, as well as several pieces of furniture. The room is also equipped with hanging rails on several of the walls. The space had the sort of atmosphere we were looking for and also resonated slightly with the Walcot Chapel. |
We set our exhibition up on Friday 20th April. When setting up, I had some technical problems with the equipment but in the end I resolved all these issues!
We had our opening on Saturday 21st. Unfortunately I had to work as AV assistant at the university on that day and I was only able to go to the opening briefly. It was quite successful though and we got a nice footfall.
