Artist's Statement
I am interested in depicting the processes and the dynamics that shape individuals and communities as human beings with specific interests, emotions and aspirations and to this extent, I try to use my practice as a vehicle to reflect upon the reality that surrounds me and those close to me, by looking at the events that take place around us in our everyday lives and in the context of our familiar environment.
I endeavour to lead a process driven practice, in which the decisions regarding the most suitable materials and the techniques chosen for each piece are made based on their qualities and on the way that they might allow the audience to experience the work. I favour the use of black and white as I find that this allows me to focus more clearly on the events that I am trying to depict and I feel comfortable adapting my choice of materials as varied as rubber, light or time, to each specific piece and using different techniques as photography, drawing or sculpture, to express my ideas.
As part of my practice, I constantly try to explore new ways of approaching my work and different ways of expression, as I believe that this allows me to develop as a practicing artist and as an individual by gaining a better understanding of the world around me. This has led me to recently start working with performance and sculpture and to interact and collaborate with other artists with similar interests and I currently am experimenting with the creation of three dimensional objects to be used as tools to research the events that make us who we are. .
