Without darkness there is no light Fringe Arts Bath 2018

Application to take part in an exhibition with an immersive, interactive piece.
After working for some time in my studio with the material that I had produced during my residency at the Walcot Chapel, I started getting interested in exhibiting it as the project that I had started there was becoming more and more about how to display the work, rather than about the work itself.
When I saw the “Without Darkness there is no light” initiative, in the 2018 Fringe Arts Bath website, I thought that this would be a good opportunity to try and exhibit some of the work that I had produced.
I applied, explaining what my production from the Walcot Chapel residency was about and commenting on the fact that it was very versatile towards being exhibited.
They got back in touch showing interest in the work that I had produced and they also requested some more information about how I would make my pieces interactive, so that the audience would be able to engage with them. I had already been considering such a possibility when I developed one of the earliest pieces during this residency and I decided to develop this idea further through some drawings that I submitted to them.

We exchanged a few more emails about my work, the equipment and the size of the room that I would need for my performance. Unfortunately, one day I received an email saying that due to the fact that they hadn’t been able to find a suitable venue for their initiative, they wouldn’t be able to allocate my work in the festival, much as they liked it.
I thought that this was a shame as I was quite keen and quite interested in performing live and I had already been rehearsing and trying the equipment out, but I was looking forward to seeing the exhibition anyway and was really surprised when I saw that it was not in the list of initiatives anymore, once the final line up was announced by Fringe Arts Bath. I hope that they are able to come back in the future and find a venue that makes their initiative viable, as I think that it is a very interesting one and I would love to be part of it in the future.
