Help setting up the 3rd year Degree Show
On Friday 11th March I came in to University to help the 3rd year Fine Art students with the set up of their degree show. Rosie Snell gave a quick briefing to the first year students who had turned up to help and we were grouped in teams, by studios.
I was in the team helping in the sculpture studios where several stud walls were to be erected and we were given the task to make the first coat of paint to the boards that were going to be used to build them. This did not take long and once done, myself, Tim Davies and a CAP student began putting together the stud walls. It took us part of the morning and we continued after our lunch break. I had never done something like this and I really enjoyed it.
There were some pipes in the way which we had to partially hide with the wall and I learnt how to cut rectangular holes on a plank of wood to fit them, something I had not done before.
I also learnt how to easily set up a wooden structure, which tools are needed to do this and the way to use them.
I came in again on 16th and 17th to see if anyone else needed help setting up. The studios were surprisingly quiet both days and most people there did not need anything doing but I did help a student fixing a metallic plate to the wall to create a shade for a video projection.
